Ontario reports 551 new COVID-19 cases, 291 recoveries today

The province is also reporting another 38 deaths attributed to COVID-19

Ontario Public Health is reporting 551 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province today, and another 38 deaths, 24 of which were long-term care residents.

There have also been another 291 recoveries reported since yesterday.

In total, the province has confirmed 11,735 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, and that number includes 5,806 recoveries, and 622 deaths.

The latest report also shows the province processed 9,330 tests in a single day, bringing the total of completed tests in the province to 174,170. There is currently a backlog of 5,546 tests awaiting results.

There are now 859 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 including 250 in intensive care units and 194 on ventilators.

An additional seven long-term care home outbreaks reported since yesterday brings the provincial total to 121 outbreaks reported. There are 34 outbreaks reported in Ontario hospitals.

There have been 1,394 cases confirmed in residents and patients of long-term care homes, and there are now 274 deaths of long-term care home residents attributed to COVID-19.

The highest number of confirmed cases have been reported in the 40-59 year olds age group (3,665 or 31.2 per cent). There are 260 cases (2.2 per cent) in people aged 19 and under, 2,657 cases (22.6 per cent) in people aged 20-39, 2,687(22.9 per cent) in people aged 60-79, and 2,457 (20.9 per cent) in people over the age of 80.

About 30 per cent of Ontario’s cases are considered community transmission. Ten per cent are travel related, and 17 per cent are attributed close-contact. The remaining 41 per cent list transmission data as pending.

The statistics reported by Ontario Public Health are current as of 4 p.m. yesterday.

As of yesterday, there have been 202 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Simcoe Muskoka Region, and 100 of those people have recovered, 12 have died. Ten people are hospitalized and 24 residents are isolated at Bradford Valley.

The case breakdown for towns and cities (including those who have died or recovered) is as follows: Bradford W-G (54), Barrie (48), New Tecumseth (20), Orillia (10), Collingwood (8), Innisfil (6), Springwater (5), Midland (5), Wasaga Beach (7), Oro-Medonte (5), Adjala-Tosorontio (6), Clearview (2), Essa (3), Ramara (2), Tiny (2), Penetanguishene (2) for a total of 185 cases in Simcoe County.

There are also 16 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka.

In Simcoe Muskoka the infection rate per 100,000 people is 33.7, the provincial average is 78.9 per 100,000 people.
