Public Health Ontario has reported 663 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 6).
Today's update also includes 1,222 new recoveries and 10 deaths.
The June 6 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 545 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 625 yesterday. (*note: More than 10 per cent of hospitals did not submit data to the Daily Bed Census. The number of hospitalized patients may increase when reporting compliance increases).
- There are 510 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 516 yesterday) and 344 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 362 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 22,635 tests were processed yesterday.
- Another 7,049 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 15.39 million tests have been completed.
Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)
- 131,991 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7).
- 1,076 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
- 3,740 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil.
- Another 30,728 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet detected.
- According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.
Vaccines
- There were 158,393 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, down from 172,855 on June 4.
- 9,992,575 doses of vaccine have been administered.
- In total, 1,031,520 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 536,082 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 518,860 recoveries and 8,854 deaths, 3,956 of those in long-term care homes.
