NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
*************************
The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding motorists and passengers to 'Lock It or Lose It.' By taking a few simple precautions such as always locking your vehicle doors and leaving valuables out of sight, you can help protect your vehicle and its contents from theft this holiday season.

  • Never leave a running vehicle unattended
  • Lock your doors
  • Roll up your windows
  • Keep valuables out of sight
  • Pocket your keys
  • Always park in a well-lit area

Motorists are also urged not to keep personal documents such as vehicle ownership, insurance documents, credit card invoices, or other documents containing personal information in their vehicles.

Identity thieves are looking for such documents so they can assume identities, secure credit card accounts, lease vehicles for export, and even take out a mortgage against victims' properties without their knowledge.

Members of the Orillia Detachment of the OPP are committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities. Officers value your contribution to building safe communities.

If you have information about suspected unlawful activity, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, visit Crime Stoppers or call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Suspected frauds should be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
