An Orillia woman has died after an incident at the Silver Swan Villa that occurred in the early morning hours Friday.

At about 5:50 a.m., Orillia OPP, the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services and the Orillia Fire Department responded to a report of an injured person outside a residence at 114 Davey Drive.

The female was transported to Orillia’s Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Tracey Reid, a 45-year-old Orillia woman.

A post mortem examination will be conducted at the‎ Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Services in Toronto at a later date.

The investigation into this death is continuing by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit and Central Region Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of Detective Inspector Chris Landry of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

No other information was released by the Orillia OPP who issued the press release tonight at 9:30 p.m. after multiple requests for information throughout the day.

More than a dozen OPP cruisers and other emergency services vehicles were at the former hotel that has been converted to rental units for much of the day.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the woman who died had been evicted from the Silver Swan recently, but had returned several times in recent weeks.

The neighbourhood has suffered a spate of criminal activity in the last several weeks, prompting the residents in the area to join forces and form a neighbourhood watch group of sorts.

“It’s been really, really bad in the past two years and now we’ve had enough,” Ashley Stone, who lives on Cedar Island Road with her fiancé, Stewart Lehmann, and their two young children, told OrilliaMatters earlier this month.

Police activity has been seen in the area “every day, if not more than once,” she said.

“I’ve been told three times in the past six months to stay inside because they’re looking for a suspect.”

The OPP remain tight-lipped about today’s incident and said more information would be released when it’s available.
