As an annual celebration of nursing approaches, organizers are appealing for more nurses to attend.

The Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae will hold its annual dinner Friday evening at the Best Western Plus Mariposa Inn and Conference Centre, with socializing at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6.

Every year, the event celebrates those who graduated 50 years earlier from the former Orillia School of Nursing.

Glenna Tinney, one of the event organizers, said she has managed to track down 11 of the 16 who graduated in 1968. Eight of them will be at the dinner. She has been unable to find five of the graduates from that year and is appealing to anyone who might know how to contact them.

However, the dinner is open to anyone who has graduated, any time, from a registered school of nursing.

More than 100 people have registered for the dinner.

While her main focus is Friday’s event, Tinney is also looking to get a jump on next year’s celebration, when the graduating class of 1969 will be the centre of attention. Graduates from that year — and anyone who wants to attend this Friday’s event — are encouraged to contact Tinney at 705-835-6711 or [email protected].

Tickets to Friday’s dinner, which will include a silent auction and a 50/50 draw, cost $55 each.
