The Stamp Out Hunger campaign, started by Orillia teacher Dave Clark, is once again taking place this Christmas season.

On Saturday, Orillia firefighters were stationed at Orillia's Metro grocery store in the Front Street Plaza, accepting donations of food and money for The Sharing Place Food Bank. Firefighters from Severn Township and Brechin were also out collecting donations in their communities.

While the campaign is occurring at various locations throughout the region, Metro offers a sweet incentive to giving. If you purchase a "food bank bag", you can enter your name into a draw to win an amazing gingerbread house, valued at $300.

On Saturday, about 1,100 pounds of food was donated as the annual campaign officially started. Stamp Out Hunger runs until Dec. 21.

Donations of non-perishable food items and money are welcome.
