The Municipal Heritage Committee presented Dave Town with a framed copy of the YMCA storyboard sign in thanks for his assistance and guidance researching the historical background of the old YMCA. Town, a local history buff and author of several local history books, thoroughly researched the history of the Peter Street building, currently home to St. James Court non-profit housing complex. Orillia City Councillor Jeff Clark thanked Town for his “incredible tenacity in rescuing artifacts from fires at the old YMCA”. Clark, right, recognized Town at Monday’s night’s council meeting along with Heather Bertram, chair of the Orillia Heritage Committee. The new storyboard will be unveiled at the building on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. as part of Doors Open Orillia. Dave Dawson/OrilliaMatters
