Members of the Orillia Lions Club visited Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital this week to drop off a gift.

Thanks to money raised from the 27th annual Orillia Snowflake Series and the popular annual Orillia FunFest held at Couchiching Beach Park, the local Lions were able to make a generous $3,000 donation to the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) Foundation to support children with cancer in our community.

This year, the Lions Club volunteers stepped up to help organize the Snowflake Series, ensuring Canada’s only outdoor winter running race continues to flourish.

The Snowflake Series enjoyed a banner year. As a result, organizers were also able to donate $4,800 to the Sharing Place Food Centre.

Over the past eight years, the run has been able to generate almost $40,000 for the local food bank.

In previous years, the run also donated its proceeds to the Humanities 101 program at Lakehead University and the Simcoe Muskoka Child Advocacy Centre.
