SIMCOE MUSKOKA CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Last evening, the board of trustees for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) appointed Jill Colin as the new trustee for Ward 2. She will represent schools in the Orillia, Ramara, Severn and Oro-Medonte areas.

Her role begins immediately and follows the resignation of Trustee Francis Smith. Trustees voted to fill the vacancy using a selection process. The position was advertised and a short-list of candidates were interviewed. The board of trustees selected Trustee Colin by consensus vote.

“Trustee Colin stood out as a notable candidate during the selection process,” said board chair Joe Zerdin. “Jill's commitment to Catholic education is clear. Her community service is impressive, and I know her experience will be valuable at the trustee table.”

Colin is a parent in the Simcoe-Muskoka Catholic community. She is also the past director and president for the Orillia Central Preschool. In that role, she worked with the Ministry of Education to create new childcare spaces for the community. She is currently the chief nursing executive of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

“I am excited to join the board as the Ward 2 trustee and I appreciate that Mr. Smith has left large shoes to fill,” said Trustee Colin. “As a mother of four daughters, I want to ensure high-quality Catholic education for Ward 2 families. I hope my previous community board experience and background in health-care leadership will be an asset to the SMCDSB, especially as we roll out the new strategic plan."
