Orillia Quilt Guild Sale helps warm up cool day (5 photos)

Hundreds of items were on display; proceeds benefit Westmount United Church programs

The Orillia Quilt Guild put on a display of warm crafts to help welcome in fall this weekend.

Hundreds of quilted items were on display at the Westmount United Church Friday and Saturday.

Jeanne Wallace, a church parishioner and one of the 90 members of the local guild, said she put in 30 pieces for the sale. Next weekend, the guild will take its quilts to the Simcoe County Quilt, Rug, and Craft Fair which will be hosted at the Simcoe County Museum, she added.

Wallace said she noticed Friday that people were buying all sorts of items to be given as gifts at Christmas.

Visitors had a wide variety of items to choose from, including cushions, mitts, quilts of varying sizes, and wall hangings.

Proceeds from the sale are going toward church programs.

An exclusive quilt crafted by the guild is up for grabs through a $5 draw. The proceeds from the draw will go towards Building Hope. The winner will be announced in December. Until then people will have the opportunity to buy draw tickets at upcoming events being held at the church.
