An upcoming evening at the Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) will include a talk about the Orillia Silver Band and a special performance in celebration of the 70th Anniversary milestone.

The Orillia Silver Band Quintet will perform at the Speaker Series on the evening of Wednesday March 18, 2020. This group consists of five members of the band.

Their presentation will contain an educational component as conductor Neil Barlow describes just what a brass band is and highlights the particular instruments that make a brass band distinct from other bands. There will also be a live performance for you to enjoy.

The presentation will also preview the band’s production of SHINE! - 70 Years of Orillia which will feature a series of short stories and vignettes of significant events in Orillia’s history over the last 70 years, and a video montage of photos and film and music performed by the Band and guests spanning the period. The show also celebrates the band’s 70th anniversary.

SHINE! will run on Sunday afternoon, March 22 and Saturday evening, April 4, 2020 at the Orillia Opera House.

On April 15 our guest speaker is Christine Johnstone, curator of the OPP Museum located at General Headquarters. Join us to hear her talk 'Stories from Behind the Badge.'

The History Speaker talks start at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is free, donations to OMAH are greatly appreciated.
