Orillia City Council would like to welcome Richard Bertolo to the City as the Interim Director of the Economic Development Department.

Council authorized the hiring of Mr. Bertolo at a Special Meeting of Council on Jan. 22, 2018. He begins with the City on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, and will provide guidance and leadership to the Economic Development Department on an interim basis.

“Economic development is a priority for this Council and in order to ensure the continued success of the many initiatives in the department’s portfolio, we need to have professional support for our staff,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “We welcome Mr. Bertolo to the City and are confident that he will provide a tremendous level of assistance and mentorship to the department.”

Bertolo brings significant business development experience spanning internationally, including acquisitions and divestitures as well as launching and leading numerous initiatives throughout his longstanding career in various positions with Hydro One.

“Hiring Mr. Bertolo as the interim director will provide economic development staff with strategic leadership that will enable the economic development portfolio to move forward in a progressive, innovative manner,” said Gayle Jackson, Chief Administrative Officer. “He will also be a valuable resource for our senior management team, providing assistance on many opportunities the City is currently exploring.”
