Oro-Medonte drinking water systems get 100% rating

Mayor commends staff for 'continued professionalism, and efforts and achievement in operating, managing and maintaining' systems

TOWNSHIP OF ORO-MEDONTE

Mayor Greenlaw, members of council, and environmental services division staff are pleased to announce that all municipal drinking water systems in Oro-Medonte have received an inspection rating of 100 per cent from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), with no issues of non-compliance or provincial officer’s orders to comply for the 2022 reporting year.

Municipal drinking water systems in Oro-Medonte are inclusive of:

  • Robincrest drinking water system
  • Shanty Bay drinking water system
  • Sugarbush drinking water system
  • Warminster drinking water system
  • Canterbury drinking water system
  • Cedarbrook drinking water system
  • Craighurst drinking water system
  • Harbourwood drinking water system
  • Horseshoe Highlands drinking water system
  • Maplewood drinking water system
  • Medonte Hills drinking water system

In Ontario, every drinking water system is subject to legislative requirements and regulations of the Safe Drinking Water Act. Each year, the MECP undertakes an inspection of drinking water systems to confirm compliance with MECP legislation, as well as conformance with ministry drinking water-related policies. Inspections are focused on the source, treatment and distribution components, as well as water system management practices, including operator certifications, operational procedures, and emergency planning.

Mayor Greenlaw commented that “reliable and safe drinking water is of the utmost importance for the community of Oro-Medonte. Environmental services staff are commended for their continued professionalism, and efforts and achievement in operating, managing and maintaining the township’s municipal drinking water systems resulting in a 100 per cent rating from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.”
