Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is marking a milestone in its monthly 50/50 raffle.
Orillia resident Brenda Morgan’s $20,225 win in the February draw brought the total amount awarded to more than $500,000.
The draw raises money for the OSMH Foundation so it can purchase supplies and equipment for the hospital. For some who purchase tickets, it’s a personal cause.
Morgan has been receiving cancer treatments at OSMH.
“The hospital has been so good to me over the years, and I just felt like I should contribute,” Morgan said of the draw, according to a news release. “It wasn’t that much money, and Soldiers’ 50/50 make it so easy for us (to buy raffle tickets).”
It’s been rewarding for staff, too.
“I love seeing a winner’s story like Brenda,” said Jeff Sieger, raffle organizer and data and finance associate with the OSMH Foundation. “Regardless of who wins, the hospital wins. That’s so important to remember.”
The next 50/50 raffle is underway. The $1,000 early-bird draw is Thursday at 2 p.m. Other early-bird draws this month will take place March 9, 16 and 23.
