Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle on Highway 11

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a fatal collision which occurred on Highway 11 in the Township of Severn.

On October 13, 2019 at approximately 2:15 a.m. the Orillia OPP were dispatched to a collision which was reported as a vehicle that struck a pedestrian on Highway 11 near Big Chief Road. 

Police arrived on the scene and observed a person to be lying in the northbound lane of Highway 11. The pedestrian who has been identified as, 21 year old, Matthew Schembri, of Severn Township, was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services.

Highway 11 remained closed for several hours while the Orillia OPP and Central Region Technical Traffic Investigators (TCI) investigated this incident.
