The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is investigating after a plane left the runway today at Lake Simcoe Regional Airport.

"We have a team of investigators heading up to find out exactly what took place," TSB spokesperson Dean Campbell told BarrieToday. "Our information is that an airplane left the runway and, at this point, that's all the information we have."

Details are limited, as it remains early in the investigation, but Campbell said no injuries have been reported.

"As (investigators) gather more information, we'll have a better sense of what went on," he said.

An official at Lake Simcoe Regional Airport told BarrieToday that an airplane overran the runway, but any further comment would have to come from the TSB.

The airport is located in Oro-Medonte Township on Line 7 North, halfway between Barrie and Orillia.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline and rail transportation occurrences. Its focus is transportation safety, not to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
