Pop-up art exhibit opens tonight in vacant downtown store

'People are excited to see the transformation of this space,' artist says

An Orillia artist is behind a pop-up art exhibit in downtown Orillia this weekend.

Craig Mainprize, a local artist and musician, is hosting the opening reception for his solo painting exhibit Beneath A Birch tonight from 7 to 10 p.m.

“This is particularly exciting since the exhibit is a pop up that is taking place in one of Orillia's many empty downtown storefronts,” said Mainprize. “Although the exhibit hasn't opened yet, I am already getting a warm and wonderful response from the public and passersby. People are excited to see the transformation of this space into something creative and eye-catching.”

Mainprize’s exhibition space is located at 160 Mississaga St. E., directly across the street from where Matchedash Lofts is being constructed.

The exhibit, which features Mainprize’s ‘wild and imaginative landscapes expressing nature’s ever-surprising shouts of colours’ runs tonight from 7 to 10 p.m. in addition to Friday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
