A deal to purchase a former high school in Orillia could close next month.

The Simcoe County District School Board has confirmed there is a potential buyer for the former Orillia District Collegiate and Vocational Institute (ODCVI).

The potential purchaser is in the “due diligence” phase, and it could be a done deal by mid-April, said Brian Jeffs, the board’s superintendent of business and facility services.

If the purchaser needs more time, the board will likely grant it, he added.

Because the sale hasn’t closed, Jeffs could not disclose the name of the buyer or what the plans are for the building at the corner of Borland and West streets.

ODCVI and Park Street Collegiate Institute merged in 2013, with students briefly attending ODCVI while Park Street was demolished to make way for Orillia Secondary School.

The ODCVI building is among three of the board’s former schools that are in the disposition process. The others are Creemore Annex and Waubaushene Elementary School.
