ORO-MEDONTE TWP. — The investigation continues into exactly what led to an aircraft leaving the runway Monday at Lake Simcoe Regional Airport, south of Orillia.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) dispatched a team of investigators to the airport yesterday to piece together what happened.
There were no injuries reported.
No other details have been released, including the type of plane involved, the number of occupants, and whether the aircraft was landing or taking off at the time of the incident.
It was extremely icy around the region on Monday, but it's also unclear if weather was a contributing factor.
TSB spokesperson Dean Campbell said it could be a few days before investigators are able to ascertain what happened.
"I don't have any additional information at this point," Campbell said earlier today. "The investigators are focused on gathering their information ... (before) moving forward with next steps."
The airport is located in Oro-Medonte Township on Line 7 North, halfway between Barrie and Orillia.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline and rail transportation occurrences. Its focus is transportation safety, not to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
