NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF RAMARA
*************************
In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, the Township of Ramara is launching a month-long community clean-up program that encourages individuals or groups to give back to our environment and keep outdoor spaces safe and clean by taking action on litter.

“As a reminder of the importance of taking action to protect our earth, I encourage all residents, students, or community groups to sign up and participate in our month-long clean-up event to support Earth Day,” states Mayor Basil Clarke. “Whether the event occurs on one of Ramara’s trails, parks or roadways, these small actions will help protect our planet and keep our trails, parks and waterways clean.”

For the month of April, residents can participate in the clean-up program by registering for a clean-up event on the township’s website, www.ramara.ca/earthday. When registering for the clean-up event, individuals or groups will provide the event details, which include the following:

  • Organizer’s information
  • Clean-up date
  • Clean-up location
  • Cleaning supply kit pickup location, date and time
  • Filled bag pickup date and time

Once registered, participants can pick up a clean-up supply kit at either the Ramara Centre or township administration building during business hours. The clean-up kit will include one large garbage bag, one large clear bag and a pair of reusable gloves. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable gloves, dress according to the weather and not touch anything they are unsure of, such as needles, dead birds or animals and toxic materials. Organizers will also be given a clean-up tip sheet and awareness form to promote a safe clean-up event.

Participants are encouraged to tag the Township of Ramara or send in photos of their event to help promote Earth Day and the community clean-up initiative in Ramara. Please send all photos and details of the event to [email protected].

Other ways you can get involved:

  • Ride a bike or go for a walk on a trail in Ramara
  • Use a reusable water bottle
  • Save electricity and turn off lights when you leave the room
