RAMARA - The Township of Ramara in partnership with the Brechin Foodland, Ramara Public Library and Ramara Fire and Rescue is launching the Twelve Days of Giving from Dec. 1 to Dec. 12 to help meet the needs of families in the community.

This year more than ever, local families in the community are struggling and feeling the financial pressure brought on by the pandemic. Similar to other events around Simcoe County, we are focused on delivering support to families in need by following all safety measures and public health guidelines.

It is our goal this year to raise $10,000 or more in either cash and/or gift card donations that will be distributed to local families in need. With the money raised, each family will receive a food hamper and gift cards to purchase toys.

"Since November 12th, the Brechin Foodland has started raising money for residents in the community," said Sherri Black, owner of Brechin Foodland. The generosity people have shown has brought tears to my eyes as those giving aren't always the ones that can afford to give. I am confident that we will be able to reach or surpass the goal of $10,000.00 with the continued support from the community."

All donations, either money or gift cards, can be dropped off at the following locations:

- Township Administration Building

- Ramara Public Library (both Ramara Centre and Brechin location)

- Brechin Foodland

As well, the Ramara Firefighters Association will hold their annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' boot drive on Saturday, Dec. 5 starting at 8 a.m. at the Brechin Foodland and Brechin Tim Hortons. All proceeds raised will go towards the goal of raising $10,000 for children and families in the community.

Residents are asked for their continued generosity and support in helping those most in need in our area. More information can be found here.

The Township also wants to remind the community that we all have a role in reducing the spread of COVID-19 that goes beyond following provincial restrictions. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit advises everyone to keep safe and to do the following:

- Limiting your close contacts to people within your household other than those living alone, who may consider having a close contact with another household.

- Thinking carefully about how often you go out and what is essential.

- Screening children for symptoms of COVID-19 before they leave for school and keeping them home if sick.

- Screening before going to work for symptoms and staying home if sick.

- Washing your hands often.

- Wearing a face covering in all indoor public spaces.
