The Township of Ramara, in partnership with the Brechin Foodland, Ramara Public Library, Ramara Firefighters' Association and Susan Potalivo, raised $9,143.40 for the Holiday Giving Food Drive.

The Holiday Giving Food Drive campaign ran from Nov. 29 to Dec. 13, and all funds raised supported children and families in the Ramara community.

"The holidays can be exceptionally stressful for children and families in need, so we are grateful to the residents and businesses in the community who supported this initiative," reports Mayor Basil Clarke.

"Even though we did not meet our $10,000 goal, we came together as a community to help those in need, and I am proud of the community for supporting such as a worthy cause. Council and I want to wish everyone in our community a happy and safe holiday season."

This year, the money and gift cards raised will support 26 families in Ramara by providing gift cards to buy toys and food for the holiday season. Any money earned after Dec. 13 will help families and seniors throughout the year.

"Given the challenges that many of our residents faced this year, the success of this campaign illustrates the unbelievable community spirit," adds Acting CAO Zach Drinkwalter.

"I want to extend my appreciation to the Township staff, Ramara Firefighters Association, the Ramara Public Library and Brechin Foodland for assisting in this initiative to give back to the community they serve. I would also like to thank Ramara Library's 'Fibre Friends' and Susan Potalivo for dedicating and contributing countless hours in helping those in the community."

The Ramara Firefighters Association held its 16th annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' boot drive to support the campaign this year. The Ramara Firefighters Association, which is comprised of volunteer firefighters, held two boot drives in Ramara and helped raise over $1,800.

The Township of Ramara wants to remind the community that all municipal buildings will be closed at noon on Dec. 24 and reopen on Jan. 3, 2022, at 9 a.m.
