NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA SILVER BAND
*************************
The Orillia Silver Band will present our annual fall concert on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Orillia Opera House but this year we are adding an incredible twist!

In "Where Two Worlds Meet,” renowned Canadian pianist Kyung-A Lee joins the Orillia Silver Band for a one-of-a-kind event. Two musical entities come together for an unforgettable concert that features two magnificent musical worlds.

This wonderful program includes music by Bach, Chopin, Verdi  and Gershwin with segments featuring the band on music from Porgy and Bess and the Prelude from La Traviatta as well as Kyung-A Lee playing well-loved solo works..

The Two Worlds Meet in two spectacular musical selections specially arranged for the Orillia Silver Band. We will feature the magnificent piano concerto by Rachmaninoff, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, and the playful Libertango by Astor Piazzolla both with accompaniment by brass band arranged by our own Neil Barlow!

The Orillia Silver Band's performances have been called "striking...built on pulsating basses, a driving rhythm section and dancing cornetists" and Ms. Lee's performances have been described as brilliant and breath-taking. Her passion for music making has taken her around the world and she is very much in demand as a soloist and as an accompanist.

She is known for working with many groups in the area ranging from Orillia's own Cellar Singers and local musical productions to professional performances and recordings.

Lee says of the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini that "Rachmaninoff is every pianist's dream to play because it represents everything that a piano can possibly do." (Muskoka Today, July 17, 2023). It is certainly also the band's dream to play this magnificent piece with her.

The Orillia Silver Band invites you to join us for a one of a kind, joyous concert that you won't want to miss. It will be the best of music making and friendship on the stage "Where Two Worlds Meet."

Concert tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and students 18 and under. Tickets available online or in person at the Oriliia Opera House.
