This year’s Santa Claus Parade, which meandered through downtown Orillia Nov. 19, was a big hit with the thousands of people who lined the streets and waited for a glimpse of Old Saint Nick.
“It was one of the best parade days we have seen in a while,” said Doug Bunker, who helps organize the annual parade on behalf of the Orillia and District Chamber of Commerce.
“There was a great crowd and there were some great floats,” Bunker said at city hall Monday night as he handed out awards to winners in various categories.
Bunker said the parade could not be staged without the “tireless” work of the Yuletide Committee, under the leadership of chair, Eleanor Tinney.
Bunker also thanked OPP staff in addition to Orillia firefighters and volunteer firefighters for their assistance alongside staff from both the city’s public works department and Orillia Power.
He also was appreciative of Kiwanis Club members who walked the parade route as part of the 'Bucket Brigade' to secure donations.
In addition, he thanked the Orillia Legion for hosting an after-party for participants.
“Without all their efforts, this wouldn’t happen,” Bunker said.
