Third annual fest, dubbed Fifty Shades of Hay, has become a popular annual event in Brechin

NEWS RELEASE
BRECHIN SCARECROW FESTIVAL
***********************
Brechin will be hosting its third annual Scarecrow Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Seeds were planted for this increasingly popular event in 2012 when the colourful Bikes in Bloom program sprouted along the Highway 12 corridor through Brechin.

In 2014, the Brechin and Beyond committee added scarecrows to the bikes for a fall event.

Then, in 2016, the inaugural Scarecrow Festival was held. Attendance has been growing ever since and in 2018, it’s expected more than 2,500 people will invade the Ramara Township community.

This year’s event, dubbed Fifty Shades of Hay, will be held at the Brechin Ball Park and is sponsored, in part, by Simcoe County Tourism.

Visitors to Brechin will see scarecrows on the lawns, scarecrows riding bikes, skeletons just “hanging” around, scary monsters hiding in plain sight … you never know what you might encounter. On top of that, you will have an opportunity to vote for your favourite scarecrows in various categories.

In addition to the scarecrows, the stars of this show, there will be games, animals, more than 50 vendors, demonstrations, prizes, food and much more.

You can enjoy a magic show, balloon twisting, a wildlife exhibit, wandering buskers, inflatables for the kids and a beer garden for adults. The Line-Dancing Scarecrows and the Ukelele Band will put on toe-tapping performances.

There will also be hourly prize draws, a photo contest, an opportunity to take selfies with scarecrows and mascots … and it’s all free!

The event goes from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Brechin Ball Park, located at Ramara Road 47 just west of Highway 12 in Brechin.

To sign up to enter a scarecrow visit the Brechin and Beyond Facebook page. For more information about the event, visit here.
