With completion of Phase 1 of the Laclie Street Reconstruction project anticipated by May 17, Phase 2 is scheduled to get underway after the Victoria Day long weekend.
The second phase, which includes Laclie Street from Borland Street to Parkhurst Crescent, consists of road reconstruction and infrastructure replacement, including new watermain, sanitary and stormwater sewers, new sidewalks, and new traffic signals at North Street.
“We are pleased to see the momentum continue with the Laclie Street Reconstruction Project as we transition to Phase 2,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “While road closures are certainly inconvenient, the end result will be a major update to a key roadway in our community. As construction activity peaks during this season in Orillia, we urge residents and visitors to respect all detour and directional signs, exercising patience. Let's prioritize the safety of both our construction workers and the public.”
During the construction project, Laclie Street will be open to local traffic only from Borland Street to Parkhurst Crescent. Emergency access will be maintained at all times. The project will detour traffic along Coldwater Street, West Street North and Fittons Road East, in both directions.
The City and the contractor, Arnott Construction Ltd., will be working with local businesses and residents impacted by the reconstruction to ensure they have safe access.
The City has re-installed the temporary traffic calming measures on Matchedash Street North and the temporary stop sign installed at Brant Steet and Matchedash Street North will remain in place. To further assist with traffic calming, the City is installing two additional temporary traffic calming bollard lane width reductions: one on Jarvis Street between Laclie Street and Matchedash Street North, and one on Peter Street North between North Street East and Fittons Road East.
Transit Impacts:
Orillia Transit’s Laclie route will transition service from the current detour on Matchedash Street North to the regular Laclie route for the outgoing service and a new detour on Canice Street from North Street East to Coldwater Street where it joins the regular Laclie route.
It is anticipated that Phase 2 of the Laclie Street Reconstruction Project will be complete by fall/winter 2024. The budget for Phase 2 was approved through the 2024 budget process and is $7.2 million.
The Laclie Street Reconstruction project is phased over a four-year period, subject to annual budget approval, and consists of the reconstruction of Laclie Street from Neywash Street to Murray Street; a common left-turn lane between St. Jean Street and Murray Street; and bike lanes between North Street East and Murray Street.
