BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF ORILLIA AND DISTRICT

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District (BBBS) will mark BBBS month with a flag raising at the Orillia Opera House. Media and residents are invited to join agency staff at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3 to celebrate the non-profit’s work in the community.
Throughout September, Big Brothers Big Sisters is celebrating the power and impact of mentorship in young people’s lives.
“We have many opportunities to make a difference in a young person’s life,” said Lorie-Anne Roberts, executive director, BBBS Orillia. “We currently have 22 children on the waiting list and are looking for volunteers to help out. Imagine how amazing it would be if each one of those children had a mentor to look up to.”
Mentors and mentees will attend the flag raising, at which time Mayor Steve Clarke will be present to read a proclamation.
The agency strives to support young people, who have the potential to reach great heights under the guidance and support of a mentor. These connections help kids build self-esteem and learn life skills. Mentors promote positive values like courage, integrity, and responsibility.
