The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Orillia is going full speed ahead with many planned activities, including social, learning opportunities, advocacy, and fundraising events.

Our Nov. 22 meeting features guest speaker Chris Peacock, executive director of the Sharing Place Food Centre. “Food Insecurity and Beyond” is the title of his presentation.

Over the past five years, Peacock has helped transform the Sharing Place Food Centre in Orillia from a traditional food bank into a food centre offering a wide range of programs that help people who are food insecure. He currently sits on the steering committee of the Simcoe County Food Council, chair of the Orillia Food Council and the Feed Ontario advocacy committee. Before joining the Sharing Place, Peacock worked in senior management in the printing and marketing sector. Peacock lives in Orillia with his wife and two young boys.

Peacock will speak about the growing need for increased income, housing and food access in our community and how the Sharing Place is helping address these concerns. He will review the programs that the Sharing Place runs, the impact they make, and the partnerships and advocacy work being done to address the root causes of poverty in our region.

CFUW Orillia looks forward to learning more about this extremely important support in the community.

CFUW Orillia offers amazing social connections, lifelong learning opportunities, a commitment to advocacy, new friendships, and is dedicated to promoting education. CFUW Orillia has a membership of more than 100 women and is a dynamic organization that welcomes all women who share our core beliefs of education, advocacy, social justice, and equality.
