The Orillia Naturalists' Club invites nature enthusiasts of all ages to embrace the beauty of the changing seasons with a series of exciting April events.

The Club hosted its first Sights and Sounds outing on April 10, and will host two more on April 17 and 24. During the first event, attendees gathered at a local trail and counted over 15 species in about two hours. Highlights included views of two trumpeter swans, common merganser and a loud chorus of spring peepers.

During the upcoming outings, participants will have the opportunity to observe and list spring migrants as they return to our region. Whether you're a seasoned birder or a newcomer to the world of birdwatching, these outings promise to be both educational and enjoyable. Locations are determined each week, and people are encouraged to join our email list to be notified.

Sounds of the Night: April 27

An enchanting evening awaits as we explore the mysterious sounds of the night at a portion of the Carden Alvar. Participants will immerse themselves in the nocturnal world, listening for the calls of frogs, birds and other creatures that come alive after dusk. Together we will walk up Wylie Road and see what we can see, hear and identify together. We will meet at Zehrs Orillia to carpool at 5:15pm, and at Bluebird Ranch Nature Reserve at 6:00pm.

"These April activities are wonderful opportunities for individuals and families to connect with nature and learn more about the diverse wildlife that surrounds us," said Tanya Clark, Communications Chair of the Orillia Naturalists' Club. "We encourage everyone to join us as we celebrate the arrival of spring and explore the beauty of our local ecosystems."

All events are open to the public, and participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for outdoor activities and bring binoculars.
