The Orillia Silver Band celebrates the holiday season with its annual Sleigh Bells & Brass Christmas Concert. This highly-anticipated concert takes place on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, 2:30 p.m. at the Orillia Opera House.

Concert tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students/children and are available from the Opera House Box Office.

As Neil Barlow, the band’s Music Director and Conductor notes, we aim to please!  So there is bound to be something for everyone on the program. Both new and traditional music of the season will be performed, plus a carol sing-along!

The concert will open with James Curnow’s stirring Christmas montage, Fanfare Jubiloso. The program includes Christmas Day, a beautiful medley of English carols masterfully assembled by composer Gustav Holst. The band will also perform Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium – a modern work that has already achieved classic holiday status.

The creativity of popular British composer Philip Sparke will be on offer with his arrangement of Winter Wonderland. And, for the kid in all of us sitting in anticipation by the Christmas tree, there will be Léon Jessel’s Parade of the Tin Soldiers.

The concert will also feature Darrol Barry’s arrangement of The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. And it wouldn’t be a Silver Band Christmas concert without Neil’s Christmas Jukebox. Audience members are encouraged to call out their favourite Christmas tunes and the brass jukebox comes to life!  So come prepared to exercise your vocal chords!

Just in time for Christmas, the Band will be releasing a new recording at the Concert. Couchiching Classics was recorded in early October at the Orillia Opera House.

The CD features Symphonic Highlights from Frozen composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Robert Lopez and Christophe Beck; the theme from Out of Africa by John Barry; Kevin Houben’s Lake of the Moon and Itaru Sakai’s The Seventh Night of July.

In 2017, the band commissioned Canadian Ty Watson to composed A Life Well Lived, and we are delighted to include this work on the CD.

The CD will be on sale for $15. It makes a great stocking stuffer for the music lover in your life.

Plan to attend this entertaining afternoon of brass band Christmas music.
