A spectacular snow fort at 67 Neywash St. is captivating city residents who drive by.
Deb Knell and her friends, Jamie Clayton and Billy Taylor, spent more than three months constructing the spectacular snow creation in their neighbourhood. They started building on Dec. 28 and have just recently put the finishing touches on the fort.
“We do it every year. Last year we made igloos, and this year we decided to make a fort,” Knell explained.
“The neighbourhood kids come over and go down the slide, they just have a ball.”
The snow fort was created this year as a way for Knell and her friends to get out outside and stay active during the winter months, especially during the pandemic.
“We have a lot of fun making it. We love doing it to be honest,” she said.
“When we are out here working on it, the kids come by and play, they bring their sleds. We even had some people from Newmarket stop in and say 'Oh my god, we don’t have this in the city’, so we get a kick out of that."
The snow fort was created using just one recycling bin to carve out snow blocks, one shovel, and one snowblower.
"We were actually going to do more, but there has been a lack of snow this year. We were planning on putting walls and everything in the fort, but it didn’t work out,” explained Clayton
Knell welcomes neighbourhood kids to drop by anytime to play and enjoy the fort before it begins to melt away.
