CFUW Orillia will be welcoming Michael Hill to Creative Nomad Studios as our guest speaker at the 7 p.m., April 25 general meeting.

His accomplishments include authoring three books — The Mariposa Folk Festival: A History, Superquiz Canada and, most recently, The Lost Prime Ministers — as well as many articles and book reviews.

Hill wrote a weekly column for the Toronto Star for over 30 years. He was also an elementary teacher in both Toronto and Orillia. After retiring, he was the artistic director of the Mariposa Folk Festival.

Currently, Hill is the president of the Stephen Leacock Associates, the group that awards the annual Leacock Medal for Humour.

When asked what he will focus on when speaking, he replied, “I will touch on how authors have written humour and how it varies from year to year, but it is mostly a history of the award and the people who have won it.”

Outside of reading, writing and history, Hill's interests include art and music. He lives in Orillia with his wife. He has two daughters and four grandchildren.

CFUW Orillia offers amazing social connections, lifelong learning opportunities, a commitment to advocacy, new friendships, and is dedicated to promoting education.
