The Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAH) is currently accepting submissions for the Mulcahy Publishing Initiative.

Launched in 2018, the Initiative is named in honour of the Mulcahy family, who have been active members of the Orillia community for generations.

In recognition of their generous and long-time support of OMAH as the cultural and heritage hub of the Orillia area, the Mulcahy Publishing Initiative seeks to support local writers and add to public knowledge of local history by facilitating the publication of one new local history book per year.

Each year, OMAH will accept proposals for books about or involving the history of this area. Submissions will then be evaluated and one of the submissions may be selected for publication.

The author of the selected book will receive help from OMAH staff and volunteers in preparing the book for publication, and OMAH will pay the costs of printing a limited run of the book, as well as distributing and promoting the book and hosting a book launch.

Eligible books for the Initiative include not only non-fiction but also historical fiction, children’s books, and art and poetry collections with a historical theme.

To be eligible for this program, books must also be set in what are now the City of Orillia, the Townships of Severn, Ramara, and Oro-Medonte, and/or Chippewas of Rama First Nation.

The deadline for submitting your book proposal is Jan. 15, 2020.

If you or someone you know might be interested in submitting work to this Initiative or are otherwise interested in getting involved, see details on OMAH’s website.
