Connor Worley is the 2018 Ontario Winter Games Super Fan. He is eagerly awaiting the start of the multi-sport event, which will kick off with opening ceremonies March 1.

There are just six days until the biggest multi-sport event in Orillia’s history begins. With that in mind, OrilliaMatters will be publishing a daily countdown to help you get ready for the 2018 Ontario Winter Games.

Friday, Feb. 23

If you’ve been to a Barrie Colts game, you may recognize Connor Worley. The energetic young man serves as an in-stand announcer at home games at the Barrie Molson Centre, exhorting hockey fans to get behind their Colts.

He said the job with the OHL team involves “getting the crowd cheering by doing promotional giveaways as well as on-ice intermission entertainment activities/games put together by various sponsors.”

That experience, coupled with his passion for sports, make him ideally suited for his newest gig – the Super Fan of the 2018 Ontario Winter Games. He was approached by the Games’ organizing committee to help promote the multi-sport games – both before and during the four-day event.

He has teamed up with Haley Doherty, the student success coordinator at Lakehead University, to create a weekly video series called a ‘Guide to the Games’ where they talk up the sports and venues and provide a behind-the-scenes peak into the massive event that will attract 3,000 athletes to the region March 1-4.

“It was a blast” to do the video series, said Worley. “I have a love for sports and entertainment, so I jumped at the opportunity to be the Super Fan for the Ontario Winter Games. I am very grateful for the opportunity.”

The 20-year-old Brock University student said he is looking forward to the opening ceremonies on March 1. Both he and Doherty will make appearances throughout the four days of competition, encouraging fans to support the athletes and cheer on the youths as they chase their dreams in 25 different sports. Admission to all sports and venues is free.
