Today is the day! Make sure to cast your ballots

City offering free Election Express bus all day; polls open until 8 p.m.

It’s Election Day!

The polls are open today from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., offering eligible voters an opportunity to cast a ballot in the 2018 municipal election. The victors will serve on city council and on the region’s school boards for a four-year term.

Voters are reminded that the ward boundaries for this year’s election have shifted a bit since the 2014 election. Check the ward map, above, to make sure you know what ward you are in.

In you are in Ward 1, you can vote at the Masonic Building at 24 James St. E.

Those of you in Ward 2 will vote at the Orillia City Centre, located at 50 Andrew. St. S.

Ward 3 voters will cast ballots at Rotary Place, the arena located at 100 University Ave.

And Ward 4 voters can make their choices at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School at 15 Commerce Rd.

Voters are encouraged to bring their Voter Notification Card and identification (showing qualifying name and address) to streamline the voting process. If voters have not received a Voter Notification Card, they can still vote and are asked to bring acceptable identification with them on Election Day.

The city is offering a full-size bus, free of charge, to those in need of a ride to the polls. The free hourly bus service, dubbed the Election Express, will depart hourly, beginning at 10 a.m., from the downtown Orillia transit terminal.

On Election Day, votes will be tallied as they are received from the voting locations. Unofficial election results will be released on the City’s website orillia.ca or orillia.ca/election2018 and on display in the Orillia Council Chamber after the polls close at 8 p.m. following this final count.
