Canadian Parents for French (CPF), sponsor of the IDÉLLO National Prize category to recognize a French-as-a-second-language teacher in an English school, is proud to announce the 2021 award recipient is Madame Chantal Ross, core French teacher at Notre Dame Catholic School in Orillia.

The IDÉLLO Prize is a celebration of the Francophonie across Canada and a token of appreciation for the work accomplished by teachers to bring the French language to life across the country.

Since 2021, CPF has sponsored the FSL Teacher in an English School category, which recognizes dedicated teachers committed to their students, working in French immersion, core French, and extended French programs.

“Congratulations to Madame Chantal Ross on winning this year’s IDÉLLO Prize in recognition of her dedication and commitment to her students’ success on their path to bilingualism. French second language teachers give every student in Ontario an opportunity to enrich their lives by learning and using French,” said Mỹ Dang, president of CPF (Ontario).

Chantal was granted the award due to her authentic approach to teaching, her passion for the French language as well as the respect and patience she has for her students. As part of the prize, she will receive $1,000 worth of classroom supplies and she will be featured in CPF’s and IDÉLLO’s social media channels, to share her story and inspire other Canadians to consider an inspiring career in teaching French.

As in-person events return this fall, CPF looks forward to providing Madame Ross the opportunity of attending a teacher conference of her choice to support her professional growth.

“We are pleased to join our national organization and IDÉLLO in celebrating one of Ontario’s finest teachers. Madame Ross’ passion and ability to impart a love of French will have a positive impact on her students throughout their lives. We take this opportunity to thank the thousands of FSL teachers who challenge and inspire our children every day,” said Betty Gormley, executive director, CPF (Ontario).

The IDÉLLO Prize is a reminder that learning French in Canada is an incredible opportunity, which has significant cognitive, social, cultural and economic benefits for individuals as well as our Canadian society.
