Orillia’s churches are coming together Tuesday evening to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

The Orillia and District Association of Churches has organized a service that will take place at Guardian Angels Church on West Street, starting at 7 p.m.

The theme is Showing Unusual Kindness.

“The basic idea is if we don’t have kindness as the wheels of our operation, we don’t have anything,” said Rev. Jim Seagram, of St. Athanasius Anglican Church.

Regardless of the themes of the annual observation, “unity” is the key word, he said, noting Tuesday’s service is open to people of all Christian denominations.

“For Christians — for human beings — there’s a tendency to drift away from core or central things because of busyness or distractions. Christ died to make us one with the Father. If we don’t get together, we’re missing being the family of God,” he said.

Despite any differences among Christian denominations, he added, “we have core, fundamental, unifying characteristics and beliefs, and being kind is one of the most basic.”
