Friday, June 16, marked the annual Arts Banquet at Twin Lakes Secondary School (TLSS) in Orillia.

“This is an opportunity to come together and celebrate the arts at our school,” said Christina Bosco, arts department curriculum leader.

From music, drama, visual arts, and Thunderbird Theatre productions, TLSS has an arts program that is alive and well, hosting over one-quarter of the school being involved in the arts in a meaningful way.

Awards were given to students from all disciplines of the arts, ranging from senior concert band, and jazz band, Thunderbird Theatre, drama, all to the way to the highest-achieving junior art students.

Our school is unique in its arts representation as it heralds an arts council with elected positions from prime minister, deputy prime minister, all the way to arts grade reps.

The council is responsible for organizing and implementing events throughout the school year. This year was one of exception with events such as our monthly Live at Lunch performances, December holiday and spring concerts, Valentine’s Day ‘toon-a-toonie’ fundraiser, Arts Week, and our Art’s Fun Day workshops.

TLSS would like to commend its arts council prime ministers — Sophia Adam and Emily Grimaldi — and the rest of the arts council on the planning, organization, and presentation of this year’s Arts Banquet.

Bosco says, “This year’s council was exceptional. They were an eager and energetic crew who were driven to ensure the arts were celebrated this year, and they certainly were.”

Twin Lakes is so proud of its arts department and is ready to get to work celebrating the arts in the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.
