The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 75 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths in today's update (May 5).
The four deaths today include two Barrie residents, one Bradford West Gwillimbury resident, and one Innisfil resident. All four were between 65 and 79 years old, one was a woman and three were men. They died between April 23 and May 3. Two cases were attributed to community transmission and two were linked to close contact.
There are 1,381 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.
The health unit has reported 3,632 variant cases confirmed to date, with 1,040 of those cases still active.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 10,773 cases of COVID-19 with 8,680 of those cases recovered and 230 cases ending in death.
There are 36 people from Simcoe County and two people from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes one new hospitalization since yesterday
To date, 206,252 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 33 per cent of the region's population. About three per cent of the population has received two doses of vaccine.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified):
- Orillia (1): One youth under 18 whose case is linked to close contact.
- Ramara (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is listed as community-acquired.
- Barrie (17): Two youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, four people between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact, two to community transmission, and one to an outbreak.
- Springwater (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is attributed to community transmission.
- Innisfil (17): Three youth under 18 years old, three people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, eight people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Nine cases are linked to close contact, and four are listed as community-acquired.
- Bradford West Gwillimbury (5): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired.
- Midland (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old.
- Tiny (2): Two people between 18 and 34 years old.
- Penetanguishene (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old.
- Essa (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is linked to close contact.
- New Tecumseth (21): Three youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and five people between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact, one is outbreak-related, and one is listed as community-acquired.
- Adjala-Tosorontio (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact.
- There were four cases in Muskoka, including one in Bracebridge, two in Gravenhurst, and one in Muskoka Lakes.
- One case is listed with location information pending.
