The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported two new COVID-19 cases and zero deaths in today's update (July 13).

Current case incidence rates are the lowest they've been since July and August of 2020.

Today's report also notes 50 per cent of the region's adult population (18 and over) has received two doses of a vaccine against COVID-19. Approximately 48 per cent of the region's 12-and-over population has been fully vaccinated.

There are 41 active cases in the region, which is the lowest the region has seen since this time last year.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,320 cases of COVID-19 with 11,604 of those cases recovered and 254 cases ending in death.

There are four people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19 related illness. There have been no new hospitalizations reported since Friday.

The health unit has reported a total of 4,955 variant strain cases, with 25 of those still active.

It can take several days to confirm a variant strain after a positive COVID-19 test result is reported to the health unit.

Today's update also includes the following information on variants of concern:

  • 3,999 local cases have tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern B.1.1.7 (alpha), up by one since yesterday.
  • 166 cases have tested positive for the P.1 (gamma) variant of concern, up by two since yesterday.
  • 34 cases have tested positive for the B.1.351 (beta) variant of concern, up one since yesterday.
  • 84 cases have tested positive for the B.1.617.2 (delta) variant of concern, up by five since yesterday.
  • An additional 672 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).

About 33 per cent of the region's total population is still unvaccinated, which includes children under 12 who are ineligible for a vaccine at this time. Forty-two per cent of the total population is fully vaccinated and 25 per cent has one dose.

Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified).

  • Innisfil(1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is listed as community-acquired (no known link).
  • Midland (1): One youth under 18 years old.

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on July 13).

It should be noted total cases minus recoveries, deaths, and hospitalizations does not equal active cases. Some confirmed cases were lost to follow-up and therefore are not listed as recovered.
