Uber has arrived in Orillia.

The ridesharing company announced Friday it had launched its services in town.

“Residents and visitors alike now have a safe, affordable, and reliable option to help get them where they need to go, when they need to,” Michael van Hemmen, general manager of Uber Canada, said in a news release, “and for those with a safe driving record, a flexible opportunity to earn money on their own time. We’d like to thank Mayor (Don) McIsaac for his advocacy in bringing Uber back to Orillia. My Aunt Linda is going to be happy to have more transportation options to get around.”

McIsaac, in the news release, said he heard residents talk about the need for “more transportation options” while on the campaign trail.

“I am pleased that, as of today, Orillia residents will now have Uber as another convenient way to get around the city,” he said.

Uber expects to be busy in Orillia, and it noted wait times are likely to be long in the first few weeks following Friday’s launch.

Uber Eats is also now available in town.
