Last night, just before 11 p.m., officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Tay Fire and Emergency Services and the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services responded to a report of a structure fire at a residence located on Neilsen Road in Tay Township.

Upon arrival, emergency services encountered a fully engulfed structure fire with reports of persons trapped inside. Firefighters were able to gain entry to the home where they were able to locate and remove a mother and a seven year-old-child.

In total, four people were transported to a local hospital with varying degrees of injury that are believed to be related directly to the fire. A 44-year old female victim and the two males aged 11 and seven have sustained serious injuries, while a 17-year-old male has sustained life threatening injuries. All four have since been transported to Toronto area trauma centres for continued medical treatment.

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has been contacted and will be attending the scene today to conduct an investigation into the cause of this fire.

Further information will be released only as it becomes available.
