Stakeholders from the City of Orillia, Townships of Oro-Medonte, Severn, and Ramara, Treaty First Nations, specifically the Chippewa Tri-Council, the Huron-Wendat Nation and Metis Nation of Ontario are invited to attend a virtual kick-off public open house to learn more about the City of Orillia’s Settlement Area Boundary Expansion requirements.

The City of Orillia is in the early stages of completing a Technical Evaluation for Settlement Area Boundary Expansion to accommodate its growth needs to the year 2051.

The city’s project team is currently working to determine the most appropriate areas for expansion, called the Focused Study Area (see map), and input from the community is required, particularly those who own large tracts of land in within the Focused Study Area.

“Like all municipalities, the province is requiring the city to plan for growth to the year 2051. After our initial Land Needs Assessment was completed, it has been determined the city does not have sufficient land for growth within the existing municipal boundaries,” said Mayor Steve Clarke.

“The city now has to look at appropriate lands to expand its boundaries. We will be working together with surrounding townships, First Nations, and Metis partners to carefully evaluate lands and how we move forward," said the mayor. "We encourage residents and landowners to attend this virtual open house to learn more about the project and share information that will help inform future work.”

To register for the virtual kick-off public open house, please visit orillia.ca/MCR. It is recommended to pre-register to attend this event. You will be able to join the virtual public open house via computer or telephone. The link and phone-in number will be automatically emailed to you following registration.

Virtual Kick-off Public Open House for the Technical Evaluation for Settlement Area Boundary Expansion

A Settlement Area Boundary is the boundary that encompasses the limits of an urban area. Where it is expected that more urban land is needed to accommodate the growth forecasts for a particular municipality, a municipality needs to undertake a Settlement Area Boundary Expansion, guided by provincial legislation and policies.
