Weightlifters show their mettle en route to medals

43 athletes from all over the province compete

Forty-three weightlifters from all over the province used their muscle, honed technique and endurance as they competed for gold at the 2018 Ontario Winter Games hosted by Orillia.

The weightlifters, competing in various weight classes, had three opportunities in each of the snatch and clean and jerk to out-lift their rivals; the winners were the ones who lifted the most in their best lifts in both disciplines.

Unlike many of the other 25 sports being contested at this weekend’s event, weightlifting was a one-day affair that wrapped up with medal ceremonies Friday night at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School.
