“What can I do about reconciliation?" That is the question former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould says she is asked all the time.

And she tries to answer it in her new book, True Reconciliation: How to be a Force for Change, published last November.

“The more people ask it — whether Indigenous or non-Indigenous — the more it becomes clear that there is still a struggle to find answers. In particular, people are struggling to translate their increasing knowledge, awareness, understanding and desire into tangible action,” Wilson-Raybould says. (Globe and Mail, Nov. 4, 2022).

A study of Wilson-Raybould’s book to be held at St. James’ Church in downtown Orillia is one action being taken that could be a small step on the reconciliation journey.

This clear, straightforward book shows individuals, communities, organizations and governments how to keep moving ahead with reconciliation using three core practices: Learn, Understand and Act. Wilson-Raybould says these practices are interrelated and can build on each other to move Canada forward.

“We are always moving forward,” she says.

Hosted by the Reconciliation Circle at St. James, a dialogue about this informative book will be held over two meetings. On Sunday, April 16, there will be a discussion of the Learn and Understand sections. On Sunday, April 30, the study will move on to Act, the third section.

Both parts of the study will run from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A light lunch will be served. Registration is required at no charge by emailing [email protected] prior to Friday, April 14.
