The County of Simcoe is extending an open invitation to help envision the future of the Regional Community Hub in Orillia.

Throughout May, the County is leading a Community Visioning and Consultation process to obtain feedback from residents and stakeholders on the development of the former Orillia District Collegiate & Vocational Institute at 2 Borland Street East, Orillia.

The site, which was purchased by the County of Simcoe in summer 2018, is proposed to be transformed into a vibrant Regional Community Hub that will meet the diverse needs and services of members of the community.

A community hub is a space in which multiple services and supports – such as housing, health, social, cultural, recreational and government, etc. – are located together, creating an efficient one-stop shop for residents to access the resources, services and supports they need.

“We’re listening and we encourage residents from across the county to provide input and help us build a world-class service hub to meet the evolving needs of our residents and municipalities,” said Warden George Cornell.

“We’re proud to make this significant infrastructure and service investment and look forward to engaging residents and stakeholders over the coming months.”

The consultation process will engage stakeholders from across the county, and will include a community survey, mobile community engagement booths and a series of workshops with leaders of community service organizations.

The consultation will focus on identifying needs in the community surrounding the site of the future hub, the City of Orillia and broader Simcoe County, as well as understanding the community members’ ideas around the Community Hub they want to see developed in their community.

The County of Simcoe is working with the consulting firm Eco-Ethonomics to obtain and analyze feedback during the consultation process.

Individual community members who are interested in sharing their perspective can join the discussion by:

  • Taking an online survey on community needs at www.simcoe.ca/hubsurvey by May 20, 2019, or
  • Visiting a mobile engagement booth at one of the following locations in Orillia:
