Women's Institute helps paramedics support local children

The Clowes Women’s Institute of Oro-Medonte provide Teddy Bear packages to local paramedics for distribution to traumatized children. How do paramedics calm a traumatized child? One way is with the help of the Clowes Women’s Institute of Oro-Medonte.

All Women’s Institutes across the county work diligently to assist community members who are in need. It could be a care package to someone who experiencing medical treatments, a widow or widower who lives alone or traumatized children who are being assisted by the local paramedics.

Since 2018, Clowes Women’s Institute have provided more than 100 Teddy Bear packages to the local paramedics (Craighurst) who then distribute to other paramedic operations in the county. The packages contain a handmade flannel quilt, a book and a cuddly teddy bear.

“The Teddy Bear immediately reduces the stress level of the child and provides comfort to the child,” stated Mike, Craighurst paramedic.

To continue with this valuable program, Teddy Bear Project, we encourage and welcome donations of flannel fabric and/or cash to purchase the supplies. A Women’s Institute near you is looking for members. Join to give back to your community.
