Want to avoid Election Day lineups? You can!
Today is the first opportunity to cast your ballot in the 2018 municipal election. The advance poll goes from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Orillia City Centre on Andrew Street.
Bring your Voter Notification Card and personal identification. But leave your campaign buttons and signs at home – these are not allowed at voting locations.
Today is the first of five advance polls to be held before the Oct. 22 municipal election. Here are the dates of the other advance votes (all to be held at Orillia City Centre):
- Wednesday, Oct. 10 from noon to 8 p.m.
- Friday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- Thursday Oct. 18 from noon to 8 p.m.
On Election Day, you can cast a ballot anytime between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Voters in each ward will vote in different locations.
Ward 1 - Masonic Centre, 24 James St. E.
Ward 2 - Orillia City Centre, 50 Andrew St. S.
Ward 3 - Rotary Place, 100 University Ave.
Ward 4 - Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School, 15 Commerce Rd.

In the last municipal election in 2014, there were 23,303 registered voters. Just 9,232 ballots were cast as 40 per cent of voters opted to exercise their democratic right.
The city uses paper ballots which are read by an optical scan tabulator. The results are typically available soon after the 8 p.m. deadline on Election Day.
Results will be shown live on Election Day in the Council Chamber at the Orillia City Centre beginning at 8 p.m.
