Sport Orillia is hosting a free seminar on Wednesday, June 27 on ‘Careers and Jobs in Sport.’

The goal of the informative seminar is to provide information for those looking for a lifelong career in sport, and also those looking for part-time opportunities or just ways to be involved locally in sports and recreation.

Staff from The City of Orillia will be present to provide information about opportunities including those that will be associated with the new recreation facility that is being built on West Street. Information from colleges and university programs related to recreation and sport will also be available.

Sport Orillia has assembled a panel of local people who have made careers in sport who will provide seminar attendees guidance and share their experiences and will be happy to answer questions you may have about the industry. There will also be a networking opportunity at the conclusion of the event.

Here’s information about the four panelists:

John Daggett is the Co-op Consultant - Employer Development for Georgian College's Hospitality Tourism, Culture, Recreation, Golf and Ski programs. John is also head coach of the Georgian College men's varsity rugby team. In 2016, he made history by winning the OCCA coach of the year, the Rugby Ontario coach of the year and Rugby Canada coach of the year award.

Chris Gammon is currently working with the City of Orillia as their Sport Program Supervisor. He is also a proud member of Sport Orillia's executive, representing the City of Orillia. Gammon is also a level 4 Ball Hockey referee.

Seanne Goodfellow is a Financial Services Clerk for Aurora (and previously for Orillia). Goodfellow was an ice hockey referee who was selected to officiate an international friendly game between Canada and the United States in 2005. She has many other sport-related accomplishments and is a proud member of the North American Society for Sport Managers and the Canadian Association for Advancement of Women in Sport.

Michael Ladouceur was the General Manager of the very successful 2018 Ontario Winter Games that were held in Orillia this past March. He will also be in charge of directing the 2020 Ontario Winter Games which will be back in Orillia. Ladouceur is also a part-time professor with Georgian College and has contributed to many other sport-related events in his young sport management career.

The free seminar, which will occur Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Orillia Room at Rotary Place, is an opportunity to learn from these excellent sport managers. In addition it's a chance to network with professionals and there will also be information about local part-time sport jobs and post-secondary education opportunities related to sports management and recreation. Hope to see you all there!
