The Polyethic Industries Atom Girls' Lakers went 5-3 in their past six games at a pair of tournaments.

On Saturday, Nov 30 the atom Lakers went 1-1 in their second-round Ontario Basketball League action. The team entered the day 2-0 from round 1. After a tough 48-18 loss to unbeaten North Toronto, the girls rebounded with a strong 22-14 win over Flamborough to improve to 3-1 and secure their hold on 2nd place heading into round 3 in January.

The girls were led in scoring by Emersyn McLaughlin and a solid all-round team defensive effort in game two.

The team then stepped up their level of competition and entered the AA Pelham Panther tournament on the weekend of December 7-8. The girls got off to a slow start with a tough 33-10 loss to local rivals Barrie.

They rebounded with a more competitive effort and lost a tight 21-14 game to Transway #2. Sunday brought a new day and renewed energy with the girls dominating two games and coming away with a 21-12 victory over the London 86’ers and a 29-21 win over the Dundas Dynamo.

A trio of new players led the offensive charge with Hailey Devine, Maleighney Meyer, and Miley Nichol contributing points in each game. The defensive leaders for the weekend were Ava Wara, Alli Smith, and Avery Bell.

The team is off for a well deserved Christmas break.
